I acquired this Golf 4.5 years ago. It was supposed to be a stop gap but I ended up enjoying it a bit too much. It was mostly used as my commuter, airport and generally day-to-day car. Nothing sporty.
In my ownership, I have continued servicing it yearly regardless of mileage and although I haven’t got the paperwork from the previous owners, you’ll find 2 service books and 16 service stamps from VW dealers and independent specialist.
I have had it serviced by Stealth Racing in Southam who are a well renown VW specialist.
As mentioned, it is mechanically in good fettle and up to date but it could do with some cosmetic attention, namely liner and wings and some rust spots which I will describe further on.
Engine:Sweet an powerful. Uses about 250ml of oil every 1000 miles. Given VW handbook mentions 1L/1000 miles, I consider it tight.It doesn’t splutter, hesitate or fail to start. It idles steadily and doesn’t smoke. It doesn’t use coolant either.This car is unmodified aside from the half Milltek sport exhaust which is resonated so doesn’t produce more db than OEM. I had to change it as the original exhaust began to rust and failed the MOT.
Interior:Good but the liner has started to come loose at the sunglasses holder. A known issue with Golfs mk5 in general.1 tear on the driver’s seat bolter.both pictured.
Bodywork:No dents16 years of stone chips, mostly on the front splitterBoth wings will need changing if you want it perfectSome surface rust on the passenger sides sill.Rust spot on the RHS rear quarterall pictured
2 keys and all original documents in their VW folder.12 months MOT
