Scarlett.
Purchased by us after a full bare metal restoration in 2010 (photos to prove) and our summer family camper ever since.
Always garaged and maintained mechanically, regardless of cost, by the renowned VW restorer Nick Besant of Christian Malford ever since.
Tax and MOT exempt, though for safety’s sake she has a continuous MOT history with 13 months remaining (until March 2027) with no advisories.
1979 so the last year of T2 manufacture so she benefits from front disc brakes and a standard spec, 1.6L, air cooled, AS twin port engine.
Cosmetically and mechanically absolutely solid.
We have only had a 2 breakdowns in the last 16 years. Once with a snapped clutch cable, recovered to Beasants VW Garage, £10 for a cable and back on the road within the hour. Once with a cracked distributor cap, recovered from the M5 to The Old Dub Shop in Bristol, £10 for a new cap and again on our way within the hour. I took this opportunity to fit electronic ignition inside the distributor cap so no more messing around with points and condensers.
Full bulging history file from new with the original registration papers from Germany showing matching numbers.
Same key fits all doors and ignition.
All German and UK MOTs verifying the mileage as genuine at 212,900km (133,062 miles).
VW Heritage certificate showing build date of 25/5/79
Receipts for all work done from import in 2002 including new interior (£3700) in 2011 after restoration.
Full width rock and roll bed plus full width bed in the pop top so sleeps 4 in 2 double beds. Fridge freezer, electric water and sink all in perfect working order. Space for cookers.
6 seats and 6 seatbelts so ideal for weddings and school proms.
240 volt hook up with a large leisure battery.
Recent work includes tidy up of body work in 2025
Carburettor strip down, clean and reassemble, engine retune and replacement of chassis outrigger following MOT advisory in 2024.
Engine strip down to short block and full rebuild in 2023
New rear brakes 2021
New front brakes 2020
All fuel hoses replaced and E10 compliant though always run on E5.
The van looks superb inside and out. It starts drives and stops without fault and has been a pleasure to own. Any inspection welcome and I don’t think you will be disappointed as we looked at some horror shows before finding Scarlett.
Current insurance agreed valuation of £28,000.
