1987 Volkswagen Golf Clipper – Honest, Usable Classic with Loads of Character
After 12 years of ownership, I’ve decided it’s time to find a new home for my 1987 Golf Clipper.
This is an honest classic that can still be used and enjoyed as it is, but it would ideally suit someone with the space and time to gradually restore it to its former glory. It isn’t a pristine show car, and I don’t want to pretend otherwise, but it has loads of character, always turns heads and is seriously cool without needing any performance modifications or unnecessary bling.
The main jobs that need attention are:
The mohair roof was replaced around five years ago and remains in good condition. There is currently a small drip around the edge of the rear window when it rains, which appears to need only a thin bead of silicone to seal it properly.
I’ve genuinely enjoyed owning and driving this car. It has a great presence, plenty of charisma and feels special without being flashy or trying too hard. There are not many genuine Clippers around now, and good, original examples are becoming increasingly difficult to find.
It deserves to go to someone who appreciates what it is and can give it the time and attention needed to preserve and improve it. It could continue to be used as an enjoyable classic while the work is carried out gradually.
Please remember that this is a nearly 40-year-old vehicle, so viewing is strongly recommended. I’m happy to answer sensible questions and describe the car as honestly as possible.
